Jarrod Bieber

Undergraduate Tuition Awardee

University of Delaware

My name is Jarrod Bieber. I am a rising junior at the University of Delaware, in the Department of Physics and Astronomy. As an astrophysics major, I am interested in all things outer space. I did undergraduate research in the summer of 2023 on binary white dwarf star systems with Dr. Judith Provencal, and I will be doing more research in the summer of 2024, related to exoplanets with Dr. Sarah Dodson-Robinson. I participated in the NASA-sponsored National Eclipse Ballooning Project to collect data from the 2024 Total Solar Eclipse. I am also a member of the Delaware Atmospheric Plasma Probe Experiment (DAPPEr), which is a mission to launch the first satellite into space that is entirely designed and manufactured in Delaware.

Apart from my academic research and projects, I am the Treasurer of the University of Delaware’s chapter of the Society of Physics Students (SPS) for the 2024-2025 academic year. I am also an Educational Associate at the Mount Cuba Astronomical Observatory in Greenville, DE, and I have a personal hobby of doing amateur astrophotography (the photo of the Andromeda Galaxy behind me is my own image!). I aspire to be accepted to graduate school, and my dream is to become a postdoctoral researcher for NASA in the field of observational astronomy.
